Healthy air for young lungs This phrase is not mere marketing strategy but true for many young guests who return home recovered after spending their holidays with us. The occurrence of diseases and skin disorders, such as atopic eczema, dust allergy, bronchial asthma and many more, has increased and neither the cause nor effective treatment is exactly known! However, over the past years it has been proved that at an altitude of more than 1,800 m, as in the National Park Nockberge, these diseases are either not at all or hardly known. >> AMAS study There’s absolutely no harm in taking your baby on mountain hikes up to 2,000 meters altitude. The healthy climate has an invigorating effect on the entire organism and helps to cure illnesses of the respiratory tract and the skin. Appropriate equipment includes headgear as protection against wind and sun, sun screen and sun glasses with UV-protection. Holidays in the mountains are healthy The number of people spending their holidays in alpine and mountain regions amounts to over 60 million annually and almost all of them are convinced that mountain air is healthy!! A stay at high altitudes not only guarantees relaxing and restful compensation away from the stress of work and daily routine, it also puts new life into the vacationers and brings equilibrium to body and soul, as recently shown in the scientific altitude study "AMAS 2000". In the course of this pilot study, 22 people between the ages of 39 and 65 were tested. All of them suffered from diseases of modern civilization such as overweight, high blood pressure and high blood-sugar or cholesterol levels. The patients were prescribed mountain vacations with hikes ranging in height from 1,400 to 2,000 meters. They enjoyed their regular diets, along with walks and light exercise. Altogether, some 200 parameters were checked before, during, and after the holidays. The evaluation was carried out according to strict scientific biostatic criteria. Proven health benefits The results have proved that hiking holidays carry unparalleled health benefits. The tested vacationers not only had a better heart and blood circulation, but also showed significant improvement in blood-sugar and cholesterol levels, had better oxygen transport to the cells due to higher counts of young red blood corpuscles und experienced weight loss. They even enjoyed positive psychological effects, like a clear decline in subjective ailments and they slept better and longer than before. Mobilization of physical reserves According to the study, the secret of a mountain holiday’s recreational value originates in the physical mobilization and economic use of power. The human body recognizes the lower partial oxygen pressure ("mild hypoxia") at altitudes between 1,400 m and 7,200 m and accelerates its activities. Subsequently the activities are slowed down, a process, which the university professor and director of the study, Dr. Georg Humpeler, compares to an engine. First it speeds up to reach full power. After that however, at the end of its peak, it runs smoother with lower revolutions and performs equally or even better." New power for body and soul Similar physical reactions can already be measured at an altitude of between 1,400 m and 2,000 m. Although the organism has sufficient oxygen, more young red blood cells are produced to improve oxygen transport to the cells. Together with the experience of a stay in an alpine region, the hiking and mountain holiday becomes a real "fountain of youth", keeping body and soul fit. Thus the altitude activates physical reserves, transforming a stay in such regions into a training exercise. The mobilization of physical activity is an additional bonus for the benefits of physiological recreation. Additionally you can spend marvelous holidays which only a mountain region with such fauna and flora can offer.
